2019 Film Festival Recap

2019 Film Festival Recap

Saturday’s events began at noon and continued with more film screenings and filmmaker discussions. Films ranged in topic and were very entertaining and thought-provoking. Some highlights included two animated shorts, two student films, multiple foreign films, two local films, and a documentary about Red Tide in Florida.

Twelve films total with seven filmmakers did live Q+A with the audience, including animated award winning filmmaker, Brett Boesch. SAG Actress Sarah Pettycrew and Sarasota filmmakers also attended the festival. Those who were not part of crews or cast, voted on their favorites.

Of note is the fact that almost all of the films received votes for Best Picture which indicates that the audience really enjoyed all of the films. In the end, the animated film “The Prodigal” received the most votes for Best Short and Best Overall Film. Crisis and the Red Tide won the award for Best Short Short.

There were prize giveaways, including tickets to Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training, movie memorabilia, DVDs, and high quality extra virgin olive oil and Balsamic vinegar from Bella Balsamic in Fisherman’s Village. Donations were raised for the local VFW, American Legion, and other Veteran Groups. SNN News in Sarasota covered the event and interviewed the filmmakers, actors, and founder and host, Ryan Sharp.
